Soumaya Ayadi, Lebanon

Dr. Soumaya Ayadi is an academic with working experience in the private sector. She teaches Geology, Hydrology, and Environment at the Saint Joseph University of Beirut, and is the expert geologist for the Shouf Biosphere Reserve in Lebanon and the environmental consulting company MORES Sarl. She is the president and lead scientist at ACE, the Association for Community and Environment (www.ace4ce.org) which focuses on the valorization of geodiversity and the conservation of geo-heritage. She is the coordinator of the national chapter of the International Association for Promoting Geoethics, hosted at ACE, and the representative of the African Geopark Network in Lebanon.

Soumaya holds a Ph.D. in Structural Geology and Applied Geophysics from the University of Sciences of Tunis and Claude Bernard University in Lyon, France; and completed graduate studies in petroleum prospecting, in association with the Hydrocarbon Tunisian Corporation (P.A. Resources). 

Among other current work, she is focusing on Geo-heritage protection and conservation. She is currently leading the establishment of the first Geopark in Lebanon, along with underscoring the importance of geo-education in raising awareness on geo-ethics and geo-hazards.

She is managing a project under the program of “building of eco-citizen capacities for sustainable development”. Moreover, she is leading a project on the identification and protection of Lebanese geo-sites.
